We have decided to withdraw all signed and/or numbered Roberto Matta lots in this auction.
A fine art expert contacted us and noticed a potential discrepancy in three of the five pencil monograms/signatures of Matta’s etchings. We tried to confirm the works’ provenance with our consignor who strongly believes that the prints and monogram signatures are authentic. However, after a detailed review, we decided to pull all works. Matta’s monogram signature in the auction offerings resembles many of the prints that are offered in fine art galleries worldwide, but there are slight discrepancies that might indicate the works in our sale were not hand-signed by the artist. While the prints themselves are original, printed on the correct paper, and in the correct time period, we are unable to authenticate the artist’s pencil signature. We apologize for any inconvenience.
